Laser Scanner Training

We divide the training into 3 main sections: first we review the technical information and special features of the unit. Or we can compare units side by side for a more detailed comparison.

We then jump straight into using the equipment for a project; whether its in your office or on a job-site, the best way to learn is to do!

The last section of our training focuses on the processing and registration of the point cloud data, as well as demonstrating how to effectively use this data in CAD software.

Technical Overview

A general introduction to the principles behind 3D scanning and an overview of the scanner’s technical information.

more info

  • How does the data collection work for a Leica BLK360, RTC360, FARO Focus, etc?
  • Which data is collected and how much time does it take?
  • What resolution should I use?
  • How do I use the photo function and the HDR mode?
  • Advantages and disadvantages to scanning with a tablet?
  • How is data stored and managed?

Practical Usage

In our practical exercise we go over specific scanning situations such as facades, stairways, large open spaces, or smaller equipment rooms.

more info

  • Which order should I scan areas in?
  • How do I subdivide my project?
  • What settings do I use for indoor vs. outdoor areas?
  • How should I document awkward spaces?
  • What is the best manner for handling the data?
  • What are the advantages or disadvantages of working with an iPad?
  • How do I estimate a project?

Data Processing

In the final section of our training we concentrate on data processing, using point clouds in CAD and other specific questions.

  • How do I combine the scans from the entire project?
  • What should I consider when registering?
  • How do I align my project?
  • How do I use external coordinates?
  • How do I work with the point cloud?
  • How do I use scans in my CAD software?
  • Ho do I make data available to my end-user?
